Exciting Innovations: Kioxia, AIO Core, and Kyocera Collaborate on Groundbreaking Broadband Optical SSD for Green Data Centers

In a world where data reigns supreme, and the demand for speed and efficiency is higher than ever, the technology behind data management must evolve to meet new challenges. That's why we are excited to announce a groundbreaking collaboration between Kioxia, AIO Core, and Kyocera to develop a prototype of a PCIe® 5.0-compatible broadband optical SSD. This innovative solution is set to revolutionize the landscape of next-generation green data centers.

Our pioneering prototype utilizes AIO Core's IOCore® optical transceiver and Kyocera's OPTINITY® optoelectronic integration module technologies to achieve operational capability with PCIe 5.0. This brings an impressive doubling of the bandwidth compared to the previous PCIe 4.0 generation, paving the way for faster and more efficient data processing. The increased bandwidth allows quicker data transfers, reducing latency and improving overall system performance.

As we look to the future of digital infrastructure, our broadband optical SSD technology will play a crucial role in advancing applications that require the rapid transfer of large datasets, including generative AI. By leveraging optical interfaces, we can significantly extend the physical distance between computing and storage devices while enhancing energy efficiency and maintaining high signal quality. This flexibility supports complex data processing needs and aligns with the evolving landscape of digital diversification.

This exciting development forms part of Japan's "Next Generation Green Data Center Technology Development" project, supported by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). Through this initiative, we aim to achieve more than 40% energy savings compared to current data centers, ensuring that our future technology remains sustainable and efficient. Kioxia is dedicated to leading the way in developing broadband optical SSDs, while AIO Core and Kyocera focus on their respective advancements in optoelectronic devices.

Stay tuned as we continue to innovate and shape the future of data centers together!
