Nestled in Kyoto’s Teramachi district, Seikado is a metalwork atelier with a rich history dating back to 1838. For generations, it has crafted traditional tin and silver items—including ritual ornaments for shrines and temples and furnishings for the imperial household—preserving techniques passed down through the ages.
In this exclusive dialogue, Genbei Yamanaka, the seventh-generation master of Seikado, speaks with Hirohisa Ishi, an engineer from Kyocera’s Cutting Tools Division, and Kohei Sakai from Kyocera's global marketing team.
Though their fields differ—traditional metalcraft and advanced manufacturing—they share a deep connection through their work with metal. From meticulously maintained tools to precision techniques, the dialogue explores their uncompromising commitment to craftsmanship and the tools that support their pursuit of perfection.
