In Japan, there is a custom called "Sudare (簾 / すだれ)," which is made of woven bamboo or reeds as room dividers or as sunshades to keep out the heat in summer.
Kyocera also implements our own version of Sudare - we call them "Green Curtains" - at our factories in Japan. Green Curtains help keep buildings cooler during summer and contribute to biological diversity in otherwise industrial complexes. Since 2007, we have installed Green Curtains at over 25 locations across Japan as part of our summer energy-saving activities. The Green Curtains are used to grow bitter melons and morning glories on buildings' windows and exterior walls to reduce the use of air conditioning.
Why don't you take up the eco-challenge this summer by making your own Sudare Green Curtains with us?
