Custom-Designed Glass Hermetic Connectors with Excellent High Frequency Characteristics

A hermetic connector provides an electrical connection between the interior and exterior of a vacuum component while maintaining the vacuum seal. Hermetic connectors can be made from various insulation materials, such as ceramics (including glasses) or plastics. Kyocera offers hermetic connectors using glass materials. Kyocera's glass hermetic connectors are compact, enable high-density terminals, and can be used at RF frequencies up to 110 GHz, which takes advantage of glass's low dielectric constant.

High-Frequency Performance

Kyocera's glass hermetic connectors can be used at frequencies up to 110 GHz for various applications, including communications infrastructure.

Non-Magnetic Connectors
Non-magnetic connectors are available using molybdenum as the pin material.
Application
Beam positioning monitor (BPM) for particle accelerator

Kyocera's hermetic connectors have been used in beam-position monitors (BPMs) deployed within particle accelerators because of their hermeticity, compact size, and low transmission loss in high-frequency bands. Miniaturization makes it possible to install many hermetic connectors on the outer periphery of the cylindrical flange. SMA connector interface simplifies cable attachment/detachment.

Representative Hermetic Glass-Feedthrough Connectors

Kyocera's representative hermetic glass-feedthrough connectors include D-sub terminals, RF terminals for high frequency, and coaxial terminals.
D-sub terminals can be designed with a narrow pitch, thanks to glass sealing, supporting up to 50 pins.
In addition, glass with a low dielectric constant provides excellent high-frequency characteristics.
Future Applications
Pin materials options, including molybdenum and austenitic stainless steel, can create non-magnetic connectors for medical devices and other specialty applications.
