Kyocera's sustainability initiatives reflect the philosophy of our founder, Dr. Kazuo Inamori , who won distinction as "Japan's Most Effective Manager" in two surveys by Nikkei Business magazine before retiring in 1997 as Chairman Emeritus of both Kyocera and KDDI. For three years starting in 2010, Inamori acted as an unpaid volunteer to lead the successful turnaround of Japan Airlines -- resulting in his being named "Japan's Most Effective Corporate President" at age 80 in another survey of corporate executives by the Sanno Institute of Management. Inamori in 2019 received Honorary Knighthood from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.
