About the Kyocera patents on "two-screen smartphone" that expands the possibilities of smartphones

This time Kyocera has formed a patent portfolio for two-screen smartphone technology in consideration of the effectiveness of the patents on the two-screen smartphone.

In 2011, Kyocera exhibited the Android™ smartphone Kyocera Echo, which was the first to be equipped with two touch screens, at" Wireless Japan 2011" and sold it from Sprint in the United States.

The Kyocera Echo is equipped with two displays. It is possible to use each display separately or to use the two displays together as a single large screen display.

It is also possible to operate two apps at the same time using the two displays.

Two-screen smartphone now is in the spotlight again

Now that several years have passed since the Kyocera Echo was released in the US by Sprint, there have been various technological innovations that support the functions of smartphones. Phone manufacturers and even mobile carriers have focused again on the two-screen smartphone. Users who are tired of the UI and design of smartphones with only one screen will be given new stimulus.

For further development of two-screen smartphone

Through technical development, Kyocera has acquired numerous patents on two-screen smartphones. We believe that these patents will contribute to the further development of that technology now that two-screen smartphones are in the spotlight again. Kyocera is actively considering licensing to make its patents widely used, since it hopes that the development of technology related to two-screen smartphones will further enrich customers' lives.
