This breakthrough in cosmetic development and materials science was made possible with Kyocera's lab-grown "Kyoto Opal" advanced materials.
Developed in 1990, Kyoto Opal is an ethical alternative to mined opals created using Kyocera's gemstone synthesis technology applied to silica particles identical to natural opal. By pulverizing powdered Kyoto Opal material into fine particles, we created the new "Precious Opal Powder" that could be used in cosmetics for luminance unparalleled to other face powders.
