 Initial Production of Silicon Ribbon Crystal Solar Cells
Silicon ribbon crystalIn 1975, Kyocera began developing solar cells using the Edge-defined Film-fed Growth (EFG) process, which involves drawing out a sapphire-substrate ribbon. In 1979, the company succeeded in continuously drawing silicon ribbon, which made it possible to begin mass production.
