The Kyoto Prize Honors Dr. Ching W. Tang, Dr. James Gunn, and stage director Mrs. Ariane Mnouchkine!

The non-profit Inamori Foundation was established in 1984 by Kyocera founder and Chairman Emeritus Kazuo Inamori to honor those who have made significant contributions to the scientific, cultural, and spiritual betterment of humankind. In a testament to the prestige of the Kyoto Prize award, 10 past honorees have gone on to win the Nobel Prize later in their career.

Every November the Kyoto Prize presentation ceremony and events are held to encourage interaction with the laureates, including commemorative lectures for the general public. This year, the foundation honored chemist Dr. Ching W. Tang in advanced technology, astrophysicist, Dr. James Gunn in basic sciences, and stage director Mrs. Ariane Mnouchkine in arts & philosophy. Following the ceremony, 1,000 people gathered in Kyoto to listen to commemorative lectures by the three laureates.

Congratulations to Dr. Tang, Dr. Gunn, and Mrs. Mnouchkine! For more information about the Kyoto Prize, please visit:
