The new handset is the latest in au’s popular URBANO series. With a curved and easy-to-grip form on the backside of the handset and metallic parts used for the keys and camera module, the new phone has a sleek and stylish design in a slim, 65mm-wide compact size.

Equipped with a 2,700mAh ultra-high-volume battery, the phone can make it through two days of normal use between charging*1. Furthermore, the handset has super-rapid charging capabilities, being able to charge to 50% in just 30 minutes by using the included battery charging dock. The handset also includes energy-conserving features that further extend battery life, including Kyocera's new Auto Data Control, and Timer Setting ― making the phone a good fit for extended use in either business or private life.

The URBANO also comes equipped with Kyocera’s popular Smart Sonic Receiver® technology, which provides clear voice clarity even in noisy environments, and a special home app providing easy operability for those who are new to smartphones. Using the Sugu-Goe® function, which opens the most appropriate apps through voice command, users can also record and graph various health statistics in the Health Planet app from Tanita Corp.

This handset is part of the new KDDI lineup announced on May 20.

Main Features

1. Ultra-high-volume battery
Despite the same weight as its previous model URBANO PROGRESSO, the handset is equipped with a battery 1.8 times larger in volume (2,700mAh), thus enabling use over a long period of time. The handset also features a rapid charging capability, which can charge from 0 percent to 50 percent of capacity within 30 minutes. In addition, batteries capable of non-contact, wireless charging are offered as options.

2. E-saving Mode
New energy-saving features are applied to Kyocera’s advanced E-saving Mode, including the Auto Data Control, which saves power by blocking background data connections for apps that have not been used for more than seven days. The phone also includes a Timer Setting, which activates an energy-saving mode at certain times of the day when the handset is not in use, for example during sleep hours or work hours.

3. Smart Sonic Receiver
Smart Sonic Receiver technology transmits clear audio quality to the user through vibrations in the handset's display screen ― a technology based on Kyocera’s proprietary advanced ceramic technology and developed through collaboration with KDDI. As the vibrations cover a wide area of the screen, the user is able to hear clear sound quality regardless of which part of the device they place to the ear. Furthermore, by pressing the whole screen against the ear to block out ambient sound, it is easier to hear in crowded and noisy environments*2.

4. A variety of new functions
The handset is equipped with Entry Home, a home-screen UI app that enables easy operation for users new to smartphones by providing simple call and email notices as well as detailed guides on the “setting” screen. In addition, a 13-megapixel main camera features a background defocusing function that can highlight objects like single-lens cameras. The camera is also capable of automatically reducing noise and preventing blurring to produce beautiful images even at night and in low light. Another new function, Intelligent Wi-Fi, prevents unnecessary Wi-Fi access by only activating Wi-Fi in stationary conditions and limiting access when the user is walking or moving on vehicles with a sensor.
