[Facebook Archive] Inamori’s Beiju (88th) Birthday
January 30, 2020
Yesterday, January 30, was Inamori's 88th birthday, known as Beiju in Japan.
Kyocera has had a custom of celebrating the birthdays of all its employees since its early days. They would prepare cake and coffee and celebrate together after work hours. These gatherings were modest, but they were filled with Inamori's intention to foster brotherly affection and deepen trust among employees. Today, birthday celebrations continue in the form of hand-written message cards from the employee's department and a commemorative gift from the company.
Inamori has celebrated his employees' birthdays in this way, but he has also been celebrated by executives and employees close to him. This year is his Beiju, but his first 88th birthday celebration was held a little early in December of last year, with about 50 family members and related people. They had a great time eating Chinese food to wish for his longevity and happiness. Also, yesterday, a birthday celebration was held by Kyocera executives. At the party, a stole from Ms. Fukumi Shimura (a famous Japanese textile artist, Living National Treasure, and holder of the 2014 Kyoto Prize in Arts and Philosophy) and a bouquet of flowers were presented as commemorative gifts. Inamori received them with joy.
