Notable Moments

First standalone Kyocera plant completed in Shiga (1963)

One year after its founding Kyocera was steadily receiving more and more orders, and - along with increasing personnel and equipment - it was already being forced to expand its factory. However, the company was not yet strong enough to build a new factory on its own. Kyocera had the hall and lunch room of the adjacent Miyaki Electric Manufacturing remodeled into a two-story building, with a concrete floor installed downstairs for Kyocera to use.

However, as the business grew it soon ran out of space again and had to look for a factory site. After searching in Kyoto and the neighboring provinces of Hyogo and Shiga, Kyocera found land in Gamo Town, Shiga Prefecture that met its requirements in terms of location and cost, and in October 1962 purchased a 25,740 square meter site. By this time, the factory in the Nishinokyo-Haramachi district of Kyoto was already at capacity, and the new plant needed to be built as soon as possible. After securing electricity connections and digging wells for water supply, in May 1963 the company completed its long-awaited Shiga Plant (currently Shiga Higashiomi Plant Block 2) and staff dormitory.
