A vow to each other: The oath sealed with blood (1958)

In December 1958, when Inamori decided to leave Shofu Industries and establishing a new business was coming together, Inamori's room was filled with team members who shared his enthusiasm for the new company. There were eight of them in total, all but one of whom were in their 20s.

Filled with determination and the belief their work would deliver success, Inamori was also nervous about the new challenge of corporate management. Unable to control his emotions any more, he shouted "let's make an oath in blood to never forget this inspirational feeling!" Fired with enthusiasm, they all called back "agreed, no objections."

One of them wrote out an oath stating, "Like‐minded people gathered here pledge their blood to work as one and accomplish what is good for the world and the people." All of them signed and sealed it with blood. At that time, Inamori said "The world is a tough place. Even if our intentions are good, sometimes things won't go our way. And even if we have to work second jobs as manual laborers to make ends meet, I know we can overcome the challenges we face. Make sure to carry that attitude with you." These collegial emotional connections centered on Inamori were the very origin of Kyocera.
