Kyocera receives large order of alumina substrates for ICs from IBM.
Inamori successfully develops new ceramics that contribute to exports and wins the first Medium and Small Business Research Institute Award.
Sendai plant is established in Kagoshima prefecture for multilayer ceramic IC packages.
Inamori is awarded the 18th Okochi Memorial Production Prize for the “Development of Ceramic Multilayer Packages for Large Scale Integrated Circuits.”
Japan Solar Energy Corp. (JSEC), a joint venture between Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. (now Panasonic Corp.), Sharp Corporation, Mobile Oil Corporation and Tyco Laboratories, Inc., is established to further develop solar cells.
For his contributions to the development of new ceramics, Inamori is honored with the Ban Memorial Award.
For the development of ceramic layering technology for large-scale integrated circuits, Inamori is awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon.
Inamori becomes an Honorary Member of the American Ceramic Society.
