1980s
During a management policy announcement, Inamori cites a quote from Tempu Nakamura: “The success of a new plan lies solely in a persistent and indomitable mind. Therefore, think single-mindedly, nobly, and strongly.”
Inamori merges Cybernet Corp. and three other companies with Kyoto Ceramic Co., Ltd.
Kyoto Ceramic Co., Ltd. changes its company name to Kyocera Corporation.
Inamori establishes a private school for junior business managers called "Seiyujyuku" (later changed to “Seiwajyuku”).
The camera manufacturer Yashica Co., Ltd. is acquired.
Inamori establishes the Inamori Foundation, a public interest foundation, with personal funds and serves as the foundation’s president (after June 2019, he serves as the founder only)
For the development of ceramic layering technology for large-scale integrated circuits, Inamori is awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon.
With the liberalization of Japan’s telecommunications market, Inamori ventures into the telecommunications business.
Inamori establishes Daini-Denden Planning Company (now KDDI Corporation) and assumes the role of president and chairman.
Inamori is appointed as a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.
Inamori becomes chairman of Kyocera Corporation.
Kansai Cellular Telephone Co., Ltd. (now part of KDDI Corporation) is established.
Inamori becomes an Honorary Member of the American Ceramic Society.
Electronic connector manufacturer Elco Corporation (now a unit of KYOCERA Corporation) is acquired.
