Inamori enrolls in Kagoshima University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Applied Chemistry.
At a time of high unemployment in Japan, Inamori receives a prospective job offer from Shofu Industries Company, an insulator manufacturer in Kyoto.
Inamori graduates from Kagoshima University and officially joins Shofu Industries Company

Inamori begins developing new ceramics.
Technology
Inamori becomes the first in Japan to successfully synthesize forsterite ceramics.
Inamori resigns from Shofu Industries Company after a disagreement about the company’s technology development policy.
Management
Inamori decides to create a new company with support from former supervisor Masaji Aoyama, and Aoyama's friends, Ichie Nishieda and Tamotsu Majikawa.
Inamori marries his colleague from Shofu Industries Company, Asako Sunaga.
