MoBif Berhad, Malaysia’s VoIP service provider (CEO, Mr.Kevin Leong), and its subsidiary MoBif Wireless Broadband Sdn Bhd, launched in May 2006 specifically to handle the iBurst business (CEO, Mr.Chan Hiong Poh), jointly conducted the Official Launching Ceremony of the iBurstTM Wireless Broadband Technology Trial System provided by the Kyocera Corp. on Tuesday, August 22, at the Kuala Lumpur Equatorial Hotel in Malaysia. There were about 100 invited guests, including government officials, prominent people from local business and industrial circles, and the media.
Several representatives of the Malaysian government attended, including Mr.Y.B. Dato Shaziman Abu Mansor, Deputy Minister of the Malaysian Energy, Water, and Communications. A demonstration was held for the most prominent newspaper and magazine reporters covering IT in that country. Those in attendance were very interested to look at and handle the iBurst equipment, which included a base station and terminals.
When asked by a participant why his company had selected iBurstTM, one representative of Mobif Berhad answered, “The system already has shown its viability for commercial use in several countries around the world. Another reason was its performance, which includes a high spectrum efficiency and mobility maintaining even during high speed movement.” The representative also commented, “After successful trials, we will begin commercialization from the end of 2006 to the beginning of 2007. We plan to introduce the system in such Malaysian locations as Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru, and Kuching (East Malaysia). We will invest RM 500 million (about 15 billion yen.) in the next five years with the objective of acquiring one million subscribers.”
Kyocera developed and manufactures the iBurst system, which is contributing to the growth of information and communications technology (ICT) in Malaysia. We expect that the system will be used by an increasing number of countries throughout the world in the future.
