The "iBurstTM System"
was adopted as one of the two initial technical specifications of IEEE802.20,
a new standard for Mobile Broadband Wireless Access, in the 802.20 Working Group. |

On 19 January 2006 iBurst Mobile Broadband Wireless Access system, was adopted as one of the two initial
technical specifications of IEEE802.20, a new standard for Mobile Broadband Wireless Access, in the 802.20 Working Group.
iBurst will be formally approved as IEEE802.20 standard by December 2006 after resolving remaining issues.
As IEEE802.20 initial technical specifications Qualcomm has proposed QTDD/QFDD system and Kyocera has
proposed iBurst (BEST-WINE) system. The Working Group of IEEE802.20 has classified these proposals into
two systems, TDD and FDD, and decided to adopt for TDD system MBTDD (Mobile Broadband Time Division Duplex),
which is the combination of QTDD and BEST-WINE (iBurst), and for FDD system MBFDD (Mobile Broadband
Frequency Division Duplex), which is partially modified QFDD.
[ Initial Technical Specifications adopted by IEEE802.20 WG this time ]
(1) MBTDD: "625kMC Mode" (BEST-WINE or the iBurst - Kyocera's proposal)
(2) MBTDD: "Wideband Mode" (QTDD - Qualcomm's proposal)
It is of great significance that iBurst has been adopted as one of the Initial Technical Specifications of
IEEE802.20, which is global de facto Standard for communication technology. Kyocera expects this adoption
to influence on progress in global standardization of ISO/TC204/WG16 (ITS Wide band Communication Standard )
or TIA/ETSI MESA(Mobility for Emergency and Safety Application), which will eventually lead to further
international recognition and deployment of iBurst (BEST-WINE) systems all over the world. |
