Commercial service of iBurst Wireless Broadband System started in Baku, the capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan on 1 December 2005, following the preliminary service provided in limited area of the city. Azerbaijan is the third country to offer commercial iBurst services, following Australia starting in March 2004, and South Africa starting in April 2005. It is also the first iBurst commercial rollout in the European and C.I.S countries.
Kyocera will provide iBurst base stations and user terminals to "Datacell Azerbaijan-British LLC", a new local enterprise formed to start the Wireless Broadband Service in the Azerbaijan. Datacell Azerbaijan-British LLC will commence iBurst Wireless Broadband services in Baku with plans to expand service into suburban cities in the country.
