As its name implies, the liquid-toner printer uses liquid toner in place of the powdered toner employed in conventional imaging equipment. The smaller diameter of liquid toner particles (less than 2 m
as opposed to the 8 to 15 m
for powdered toner) permits offset-quality printing with extreme detail and resolution. Moreover, the resulting layer of toner on the paper is extremely thin, which helps to maintain the quality and texture of the printed page.
Typically the use of liquid toner greatly reduces the service life of conventional organic photoconductor (OPC) drums. However, Kyocera’s a-Si drum boasts outstanding solvent resistance, which ensures superior performance and durability even in equipment using liquid toner. |
