KYOCERA to Release 8.5-inch WVGA TFT Liquid Crystal Display

Kyocera Corporation (President: Makoto Kawamura) today announced that the company had developed the wide-format liquid crystal display (8.5-inch WVGA, Model: TCG085WV) for office and industrial use. Compared to the conventional 8.5-inch display, this product achieves a 25% increase in the display area. The unit will go into mass production by the end of this year.

Kyocera focuses on LCDs for industrial applications as a key market in its LCD business and has a lineup for both STN and TFT LCDs.

The industrial LCD market requires a long-term and stable supply system as well as quality assurance. Nowadays, there is also greater demand for LCDs with higher resolution that are capable of displaying more information. In response, Kyocera has developed the LCD which offers higher resolution of (800 RGB) X 480 dots by increasing the display area laterally by 25%. Shipments of samples begin in October this year.

In its LCD design, Kyocera also takes into account the environment. The company complies with the RoHS Directive, the European Union's Restriction of Certain Hazardous Substances, and offers a lineup of products that are compatible with lead-free LED backlight. In the disposal of its products, Kyocera as a corporation is committed to reducing environmental effects on a global scale.

The TCG085WV will go into mass production in December this year at the Kyocera Hayato Plant in Kagoshima, Japan. The company hopes to achieve sales of 40,000 units by March 2007.
