Background
When processing small metal parts, there is a need to process increasingly complex parts and reduce costs. To meet the user's requirements for stable processing and cost reduction, Kyocera has developed and offered dedicated tools with interchangeable cutters for grooving small-diameter parts, which is regarded as one of the complex processes.
In late May, Kyocera will introduce new SIGE internal grooving tools for small diameter with interchangeable cutters that enhance rigidity and the ability to discharge chips. These products feature a unique holder and the newly designed inserts made from new materials. They will contribute to improving stability and extending product life when performing small-diameter internal grooving, thereby meeting the user's requirements.

Features of the SIGE Internal Grooving Tools

The newly designed inserts are capable of processing at 8 mm, which reduces processing costs thanks to the two-cornered design.
The new L-shaped inserts are capable of grooving components at 8 mm, which is the smallest dimension available with interchangeable cutters. While the conventional inserts are designed with one corner and can process at 12 mm or less, the new inserts are designed for two corners to reduce processing costs.

Expansion of the processing range with the release of the PR925 featuring new materials
The PR925 is made from the conventional cermet and carbide, and features a PVD coating* that provides superior cutting of alloys and stainless steel. This product improves the wear resistance when processing alloys by a factor of two or more compared to the conventional products. They contribute to extending the life of the inserts.
*PVD coating: Physical Vapor Deposition. A method of coating the substrate materials by producing a chemical response using electricity or thermal energy.

The newly designed holder offers stable processing and an extended life
The new holder has been designed to improve rigidity and chattering resistance when cutting. It also introduces the screw cramp system that creates a large space for discharging chips combined with a coolant hole. The holder makes a significant contribution to the improved discharge of chips and stable processing.

Silver coating to improve the durability of the holder
The holder's silver coating is effective in providing rust resistance and reducing the wear caused by chips, thereby improving the durability of the holder.
