Kyocera is pleased to announce that it is giving classes on solar cells and environmental issues at a workshop at the 2005 Children's World Summit for the Environment, to be held between July 26 and 29 in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
The 2005 Children's World Summit for the Environment is a conference to be attended by about 650 children aged between 10 and 14 from about 60 countries and regions from around the world. The conference provides an occasion for the participants to hold discussions under the theme, "Initiatives towards a sustainable society." It is an official international conference that will adopt a declaration on the final day as a message concerning the future of the Earth's environment.
A Workshop Field Trip is scheduled for the afternoon of the first day of the event, July 26. During the workshop, the representatives of each country will present the activities being conducted, and the participants will exchange opinions. There are plans for a range of other events aimed at deepening awareness of the environment through experience.
Kyocera will participate in the workshop by sending its employees in charge of the solar energy business. The employees will offer a class on environmental issues, conveying wonderful facts about solar energy to the children of the world in English. At the same time, the employees will study about the Earth's environment together with the children.
At the end of the class, the children will connect solar cells by hand to build a solar panel, or module. The panel will carry the children's messages, and a message board will be created as a monument.
As a part of Kyocera's corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, the company has held classes on environmental issues presented by its employees in charge of the solar energy business to the children of elementary schools in Kyoto, where the company is headquartered, and in a number of other places. The efforts began formally in February 2003. Since then, the company's classes on solar power generation have provided opportunities for as many as 1000 students to start thinking about the earth's environment. Marking this international occasion, the class will be given in English for the first time.
Kyocera acknowledges the objectives of the Children's World Summit for the Environment in providing an occasion
for the children of the world to gather, to consider and discuss the Earth's environment and future society. At the same time, Kyocera believes that these discussions have a lot in common with its philosophy concerning solar energy, and has decided to support the 2005 Children's World Summit for the Environment.
