Kyocera Corporation (Chairman and CEO: Yasuo Nishiguchi) is pleased to announce that it will be releasing the ECONOROOTS WIDE solar power generation systems to the Japanese market this coming fall as part of the solar energy business. The systems are specially designed for private facilities requiring medium scale outputs (10 to 13 kW), such as kindergartens, gas stations and convenience stores.

<Outline>
As the Kyoto Protocol came into effect and as the 2005 World Exposition Aichi, Japan focusing on technologies in harmony with nature is being held, there is a growing public interest in solar power as an effective means of cutting greenhouse gases. An increasing number of private enterprises, organizations and facilities are introducing solar power systems for reducing the environmental impact of their operations.
Among others, medium-scale systems with an output at the 10 kilowatt level, positioned between small-scale systems for residential use and large-scale systems for industrial use, are being increasingly introduced to kindergartens, gas stations and convenience stores. The number of new systems in this output grade installed in 2004 showed a 172% rise over the previous year, according to the field test results approved by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
These systems for industrial use require superior design capability and are required to produce good cost effectiveness. Kyocera has hitherto proposed a wide variety of systems suited for different installation conditions and environments.
Recently, Kyocera devised a new concept of integrating this market with the market for residential systems and defined medium-scale systems for private institutions as one of the strategic markets.
Designed to have a 10-kilowatt-class output, the new ECONOROOTS WIDE systems adopt some devices for residential solar systems to emerge as revolutionary standard units with improved cost effectiveness. Kyocera will make full use of its sales channels for the residential product market to expand the market of this new system.
<Features of the ECONOROOTS WIDE>
1. Existing component devices for residential systems adopted as part of the new system
The newly developed system consists of solar cell modules, power conditioners, junction boxes and other components originally designed for the ECONOROOTS solar power generation system for residential houses.
Kyocera has conventionally developed and proposed individual systems optimized for different conditions and environments. However, in this new development, the system itself has been standardized. This has led to lower material costs and simpler design and installation.
2. Standardized systems that simplify design and construction
The ECONOROOTS WIDE system can be installed in a total of twelve different configurations, using solar cell modules for flat roofs and for slanted roofs with six different outputs each, ranging from 10.08 kW to 12.96 kW.
Based on a substantial amount of experience and a past record of achievement in the industrial market, Kyocera proposes a wide spectrum of standard and efficient system configurations in the 10-kW output class.
3. Marketing through extensive sales channels based on integrated domestic sales sections
Kyocera's solar energy business integrated its domestic sales channels into a sales subsidiary of Kyocera Solar Corporation in April this year. Previously, the sales channels had been separated between those responsible for systems for public and industrial sectors and those for residential systems. The ECONOROOTS WIDE will be marketed through a wide range of sales channels, including sales agents and franchised retailers that deal with residential systems.
4. Measuring instruments for the Field Test Project on New Photovoltaic Power Generation Technology can be added as options
The ECONOROOTS WIDE is applicable to single-phase three-wire systems that have been included in the systems that are unconditionally eligible for NEDO's Field Test Project on New Photovoltaic Power Generation Technology starting this fiscal year. Actinometers, air thermometers and other measuring instruments essential for participation in the project are available as options.
