Kyocera Corporation (President: Yasuo Nishiguchi) has pleasure in announcing the development of the ECONOWAVE, a new solar power generating system for use in public and industrial applications, one of the main markets for the company's solar energy business. This new system, with improved design and ease of installation, will be released in November this year.
ECONOWAVE (example of installation)
In the past, installing a solar power system on the flat roof or deck roof of public and industrial facilities necessitated mounting multiple bases on the roof before installation to fasten and support a certain number of solar modules with a single rack.
Under Kyocera's new concept for construction, the solar module is fastened with a pair of racks that are mounted on the roof by simply being placed on the roof surface.
This process simplifies the installation of solar modules and reduces the work period by eliminating the foundation work. It also helps save resources and reduces construction costs by substantially minimizing the parts used in the racks.
Since the foundation work on the roof is often conducted while the facility is in use, the noise, the need for waterproofing and the duration of the work are likely to be concerns. However, the ECONOWAVE has resolved these negative factors.
The ECONOWAVE also has an aesthetic design that resembles the rippling waves on water when the modules are mounted.
Features of the system
1. No need for foundation work
Since each solar module is mounted with a pair of racks that are fastened under their own weight using concrete blocks, there is no need for foundation work on the roof. The new installation process also eliminates concerns about water leakages because the water-resistant layer on the roof is not touched. The construction costs required for a 10-kW system are substantially reduced. (* Cost for the foundation work of a 10-kW system: Approx. 2 million yen for 14 foundation blocks measuring 500 square millimeters.)
2. A lightweight, resource-saving system
The following table compares the weight and other factors when the system is installed using the conventional method and the new method. The ECONOWAVE can greatly reduce the amount of materials required and the construction weight.

3. Shorter work period
The completely new construction method features an innovative technique for installing the racks, resulting in a time saving for the ECONOWAVE that can be measured in days. For example, a 10-kW solar power system that took three days to install using the conventional four-layer standard racks takes only one day to install under the new technique.
* Foundation work period is not included. The number of days is estimated at three persons per day. The time required for installation of power conditioners, measuring devices and display units is not included.

Parts that make up the racks
Mount the solar modules on the two types of racks and the right/left deflectors. Fasten the racks by holding them down with concrete blocks. Then connect the system units using connecting fittings.
