On May 6, 2010, Dr. Inamori received an Honorary Doctorate from the Kyoto Institute of Technology. He was presented with the degree during an awards ceremony held at the Institute’s 60th Anniversary Hall. Inamori serves as a management council committee member and gives advice on management issues and educational research. He also supported student work at the world’s largest design exhibition “I Saloni Milano” in 2006. It was for these contributions to the Kyoto Institute of Technology that he was awarded the honorary doctorate.
During the awards ceremony, he told the story of how the first scholarly interaction he had after starting his fine ceramics research was with the Kyoto Institute of Technology. He also talked about the advice he received on fine ceramics research from Honorary Professor Susumu Okuda and the good relationship the two of them enjoyed.
Inamori has already received honorary doctorates from two universities in Japan and six universities abroad. This was his third award in Japan, following Kagoshima University and Kyushu University.
