On June 9-10, 2009, Dr. Inamori gave lectures at Tsinghua University and Peking University in China. Both lectures were hosted by the Chinese publishing companies, China Renmin University Press and Beijing Cheers Publishing.

・Lecture at the School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University

On June 9, 2009, Inamori gave a lecture titled “Recession Is a Springboard for New Growth” at Tsinghua University. An audience of approximately 400 people — students from the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University, as well as ordinary citizens — crowded into the 200-seat hall, causing many audience members to stand during the lecture.

In his lecture, Inamori talked specifically about five active steps to be taken in order to overcome the recession, sharing his own experiences managing Kyocera.

Five Active Steps:
(1)Sales by all
(2)Devote all your energy to developing new products
(3)Thoroughly minimize costs
(4)Maintain high productivity
(5)Establish good relationship with others

・Lecture at the School of Beijing International MBA, Peking University

On June 10, 2009, Inamori gave a lecture titled “Why You Need Management Philosophy” at Peking University. An audience of approximately 200 people — mainly MBA students at Peking University — crowded into the 100-seat hall.

In his lecture, Inamori stated that capitalism only functions properly with strict ethical standards. He also explained that having a philosophy was the most important factor in life as well as in management, and that adhering to the principle of “What is the right thing to do as a human being?” has made Kyocera into what it is today. After the lecture, there was an active exchange of opinions regarding management philosophy and classical Chinese literature.

In addition to these lectures, a book of Inamori’s lectures on recession, Great Wisdom for Growth in Recession, was published by China Renmin University Press.
