On May 12, 2009, "Dr. Kazuo Inamori Forum," hosted by International Business Development of Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce, was held at the Hawaii Convention Center. This forum was held at the invitation of the Chamber of Commerce. Over 400 attendees, including local business managers, came to listen to the lecture, and 60 people volunteered to organize the forum.
In this forum, Inamori delivered an hour-long speech entitled "Partnership Management That Values Employees." He warned attendees to be wary of the today's management that pursues short-term profit and extolled the philosophy of "Partnership Management," which he has been practicing for half-a-century by pursuing employee happiness and valuing the bonds of human minds. He also discussed "Management Based on the Fundamental Principle" which focuses, not on self-interests, but in doing what is right as a human being. He illustrated this idea with practical examples.
After the lecture, a question-and-answer session was held for about an hour, where Inamori answered many questions on transcultural management, work and life.
