First, these raw materials are shaped and fired in a vacuum oven at ultra high temperatures. This is followed by a second firing in a high-temperature gas kiln. This unique two-stage process creates the wonderful colors and translucent appearance for which “GYOKUJI” is so famous. The resulting alumina material is then carefully polished with diamond powder after it is removed from the kiln to optimize its natural sheen. Finally, “GYOKUJI” is decorated with traditional Japanese designs and patterns which are hand-painted by master craftsmen.
