Support for Athletic Activities / Other Major Donations
In response to requests by local residents to create a professional soccer team in Kyoto, Kyocera supported the establishment of the Kyoto Purple Sanga (now Kyoto Sanga F.C.) in 1994. In agreement with the vision of the J-League’s 100-year Project, through which professional soccer teams strive to become community-based organizations, the Kyocera Group believes that supporting community activities is the responsibility of local companies. Kyocera, along with municipal governments and other prominent companies, strongly support the Kyoto Sanga F.C.
The National Wheelchair Ekiden Road Relay is held in Kyoto every year to encourage people with disabilities to excel in sports and society, enhancing understanding and recognition of people with physical challenges. Kyocera has supported the Ekiden Road Relay since the first race was held in 1990.
In 1995, as a part of our community support efforts, Kyocera contributed to the establishment of the U.S. Olympic training center in San Diego, the home of Kyocera's first U.S. manufacturing facility. The Center's four grass fields form the "Kyocera Soccer Complex," used by local residents as well as Olympians in training.
The Special Olympics are dedicated to promoting the physical fitness and raising the spirits of people with intellectual disabilities. Handicapped athletes play the central roles as family members and volunteers work together to discover new abilities and talents while sharing the joy of living. Kyocera concurs with the principles of the Special Olympics and supported the organization's 2005 World Winter Games in Nagano, Japan.
Kyocera established the "Scholar-Athlete Project" with the Ritsumeikan University and Kyoto Purple Sanga(KYOTO SANGA F.C.)in 2005 to develop world-class professional soccer players. Kyocera provides the project with both material and intellectual support.
Japan's National Athlete Meet was created to promote amateur sports among citizens and develop the national sports culture. All prefectures take turns hosting the event.
